PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN — A newly completed classroom building in Barangay Lucbuan, situated in the northern part of Puerto Princesa City, marks a significant step in addressing the increasing student population driven by the area’s rapid growth. The project, carried out by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO), aims to enhance educational facilities in response to the community’s evolving needs.
The construction took place within the premises of Lucbuan Elementary School, a key learning institution in the barangay. According to a report submitted by Palawan 3rd District Engineer Amelia B. Fajardo to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, the project included a single-story, two-classroom structure with a floor area measuring 18 by 7 meters. The development involved extensive earthworks, reinforced concrete foundations, finishing, and civil works, as well as the installation of electrical and mechanical systems to ensure the building’s functionality and safety.
The newly built classrooms are seen as a vital response to the rising enrollment rates observed in the barangay. Population growth in northern Puerto Princesa has contributed to overcrowding in educational institutions, prompting the need for expanded learning spaces. The additional facilities are expected to decongest existing classrooms, creating a more conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
This initiative reflects ongoing efforts under the DPWH’s mandate to provide essential infrastructure that supports local development. The completion of the project underscores the government’s commitment to improving educational access and quality, particularly in growing communities like Barangay Lucbuan.
Local residents and school officials have expressed optimism that the new classrooms will not only address the space constraints but also contribute to enhancing the overall academic experience. A more comfortable and organized setting is anticipated to positively impact student learning outcomes and support educators in delivering effective instruction.
With the completion of this classroom project, the community of Lucbuan takes a significant step forward in ensuring that its youth have access to better educational facilities, even as the population continues to expand. Initiatives such as this highlight the importance of infrastructure investments in building resilient, inclusive, and progressive communities.
The DPWH Palawan 3rd DEO continues to deliver projects that align with the goals of the national government’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign, aiming to build better infrastructure across the MIMAROPA region. As demand for educational resources grows, similar developments are expected to follow, fostering sustainable academic growth in Palawan and beyond.
