Siquijor Travel Guide: Discover the Magic of Cambugahay Falls and the Mystic Island

Siquijor is one of the Philippines’ most enchanting island destinations. Often associated with folklore and traditional healing, the island is better experienced through its turquoise waterfalls, beautiful beaches, historic landmarks, and laid-back coastal roads. Among its attractions, Cambugahay Falls in Lazi stands out as a must-visit destination. The three-tiered waterfall features clear turquoise pools surrounded by lush greenery and is especially popular for swimming and riding its famous rope swings. (Philippines Tourism)

Why Visit Cambugahay Falls?

My first impression of Cambugahay Falls would be that photographs do not quite capture how refreshing the place feels in person. After walking down the steps toward the falls, the sound of rushing water and the surrounding tropical vegetation immediately create a feeling of escape from the busy city.

The falls consist of several natural pools, with the lower pools being popular for swimming and the traditional balsa and rope-swing activities. Entrance fees are relatively inexpensive, making Cambugahay an excellent attraction for budget travelers. Recent 2026 travel information puts admission at around ₱20–₱50, while a balsa ride can cost around ₱100, depending on current local arrangements. (Jonny Melon)

I would recommend arriving early, ideally around opening time, especially if you want to enjoy the falls with fewer visitors.

Things to Do in Siquijor

Cambugahay Falls is only the beginning. After swimming, travelers can visit Lazi Church and Convent, explore the famous Enchanted Balete Tree, and continue toward the island’s beaches.

For a relaxing afternoon, Paliton Beach is an excellent choice. The beach is particularly popular for sunsets, and the western part of Siquijor is known for its combination of beaches, restaurants, and accommodation options. (Philippines Tourism)

Snorkeling is another worthwhile activity. Tubod Marine Sanctuary offers opportunities to explore the island’s marine environment, while more adventurous travelers can consider diving or visiting other marine sanctuaries.

One of my favorite things about the island, at least from a traveler’s perspective, is that sightseeing does not always feel like checking attractions off a list. A motorcycle ride along the coastal road, stopping for coconut trees, beaches, viewpoints, or a small café, can become an experience in itself.

Best Accommodations in Siquijor

For first-time visitors, San Juan is one of the most convenient areas to stay because of its concentration of beaches, restaurants, resorts, and tourist services. (Philippines Tourism)

For a comfortable resort experience, consider Coco Grove Beach Resort. Located in Tubod, San Juan, it provides a convenient base for exploring the western side of the island.

Another option is Villa Marmarine Resort, which offers a more intimate resort setting.

For travelers looking for something more affordable, Casa de la Playa Beach Resort is worth considering. There are also numerous guesthouses and budget accommodations around San Juan.

Current 2026 travel estimates suggest that budget accommodations can cost roughly ₱800–₱1,500 per night, while comfortable mid-range rooms generally fall around ₱2,000–₱4,500 per night. (Philippines Tourism)

Getting Around Siquijor

Siquijor does not currently have an airport, so most travelers arrive by ferry. One common route is to travel to Dumaguete and take a ferry to Siquijor. The fast ferry journey from Dumaguete can take approximately 45 minutes, although schedules vary. (Philippines Tourism)

Once on the island, renting a motorcycle is arguably the most convenient way to explore. Current estimates put scooter rentals at around ₱350–₱500 per day, excluding fuel. (Philippines Tourism)

If you do not know how to ride a motorcycle, don’t worry. Habal-habal rides, tricycles, and hired vehicles are alternatives. A private tricycle tour can also be practical for visitors traveling in pairs or groups.

Personally, I would choose a motorcycle if I were comfortable riding one. The freedom to stop at a beach, viewpoint, restaurant, or roadside attraction whenever something catches my attention is one of the best parts of exploring Siquijor.

Estimated Siquijor Travel Budget

Siquijor can be surprisingly affordable.

A budget traveler can expect to spend approximately ₱1,800–₱3,000 per day, covering basic accommodation, inexpensive meals, motorcycle rental and entrance fees. (Philippines Tourism)

For a more comfortable trip, prepare approximately ₱3,500–₱5,500 per person per day. This allows for a better room, restaurant meals, transportation, and additional activities. (Topologica.co)

For a three-day, two-night trip, a practical starting budget would therefore be around ₱6,000–₱10,000 per person, excluding transportation from your home city to the Visayas and back.

Suggested Three-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Siquijor, check in at San Juan, rent a motorcycle, visit Paliton Beach, and enjoy the sunset.

Day 2: Start early at Cambugahay Falls, visit Lazi Church and the Enchanted Balete Tree, then continue around the island’s coastal road.

Day 3: Spend the morning snorkeling at Tubod Marine Sanctuary, enjoy lunch in San Juan, and return to the port for your ferry.

If you have an extra day, slow down. Spend it at the beach, visit another waterfall, or simply explore the island without following a strict itinerary.

Visit Siquijor Soon

Siquijor is a destination that rewards travelers who are willing to slow down. Its greatest attractions are not limited to Cambugahay Falls or Paliton Beach; they include the quiet roads, friendly communities, tropical landscapes, and freedom to explore at your own pace.

If I were planning a trip, I would spend at least three days and two nights on the island. I would stay in San Juan, rent a motorcycle, visit Cambugahay Falls early in the morning, explore the historic and natural attractions, and reserve an evening for watching the sunset at Paliton Beach.

With relatively affordable accommodation, transportation, food, and activities, Siquijor offers an excellent combination of adventure, relaxation, nature, and culture—making it one of the Philippine destinations worth adding to your travel bucket list.
