The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Palawan 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) has successfully completed the concreting of a farm-to-market road (FMR) from Sitio Aremparo to Sitio Parena, significantly improving access to Brgy. Kamuning’s agricultural community in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

The previously unpaved road posed significant challenges to residents, motorists, and especially farmers, who struggled to transport their agricultural produce to markets. The completed project spans 0.8415 kilometres, with a 9.10-metre width, and includes Earthworks, Subbase and Base Course, Surface Course, Drainage and Slope Protection Structures, as well as Miscellaneous Structures.

According to Palawan 3rd District Engineer Amelia B. Fajardo, the new road facilitates timely delivery of fresh and high-quality farm produce to markets, enhances the acquisition of essential farming inputs, and provides safer mobility for residents. The project also supports economic growth by opening previously inaccessible areas to investors, fostering new opportunities for development.

This road is one of many initiatives by the DPWH aimed at strengthening agricultural communities in the MIMAROPA region. Similar projects, such as the concreting of rural roads in Palawan’s northern municipalities, have also proven instrumental in reducing transportation costs, boosting local commerce, and improving living standards for residents.

DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan has reaffirmed the department’s commitment to infrastructure projects that directly impact rural communities, ensuring sustained agricultural productivity and socio-economic development in the region.
