In a significant move to address increasing traffic demands and improve transportation efficiency, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Palawan 2nd District Engineering Office has completed a major upgrade of Parian Bridge 2 along Puerto Princesa South Road in Narra, Palawan. This comprehensive project involves the construction of two new 2-lane steel bridges flanking the existing structure, each measuring 9.20 meters in width and 16.40 meters in length. This expansion not only increases the road’s capacity but also reduces congestion, facilitating smoother traffic flow for motorists.
The upgrade, as detailed by District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella in a report to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, includes several key features designed to enhance both functionality and safety. The project encompasses new pavement for the bridge approaches, a sidewalk on the right side for pedestrian use, and essential slope protection to prevent erosion and ensure structural integrity.
Additionally, the installation of metal guardrails and solar studs enhances safety by clearly marking the bridge edges, while LED street lights improve visibility for nighttime driving. These features collectively contribute to safer driving conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring a smoother transit experience for all road users.
Spanning a total area of 291.428 square meters, this bridge upgrade project is a significant development for Narra and its neighboring communities. By increasing the road’s capacity and improving overall connectivity, the project is expected to have a profound impact on the local economy. Reduced travel times and improved safety are likely to facilitate greater movement of goods and people, thereby boosting local businesses and encouraging economic growth.
The addition of a pedestrian sidewalk also underscores the project’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that not only motorists but also pedestrians can benefit from the improved infrastructure. This holistic approach to bridge design highlights the DPWH’s dedication to creating a transportation network that meets the needs of all community members.
The upgraded Parian Bridge 2 is strategically positioned to accommodate future traffic growth. As the population in Narra and surrounding areas continues to increase, the expanded bridge will play a crucial role in managing higher volumes of vehicular traffic. This foresight ensures that the infrastructure will remain effective and reliable for many years to come, aligning with long-term regional development plans.
