Siquijor is a small island in the Philippines — and one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The people there are always smiling, the nature is stunning, and life feels simple and good. A planned four-day trip easily turned into ten days, and leaving was not easy at all.
The island has amazing waterfalls with rope swings, clear natural pools, and healthy coral reefs just steps from the beach. There are also many good places to eat and sleep, making it very easy to enjoy.

There are only two things to figure out before visiting: how to get there and where to stay. This guide covers both.
Getting to Siquijor
Getting to Siquijor is easier than most people think. The key is to leave early in the day in case of ferry delays. Most visitors come from Cebu or Bohol. Both have direct ferries to Siquijor, making the trip simple. Check ferry schedules on 12goasia — the site is usually up to date. The sea is generally calm because nearby islands provide shelter.
Getting Around

The best way to explore Siquijor is by scooter. At the port, locals offer rentals right away. All shops offer similar bikes at similar prices. With a little bargaining, a good scooter can be rented for around 300 pesos per day. The town of San Juan is only about 20 minutes from the port. For those who prefer not to drive, tuk-tuks are also available.
Where to Stay
San Juan is the best base on the island. The top waterfalls, beaches, restaurants, bars, and snorkeling spots are all nearby. Sunset views are also great from here.

Note that the center of San Juan can be noisy at night. Light sleepers should avoid rooms right on the main road. South Mountain Resort is a great option — it sits on a hill about five minutes from the main road, it’s quiet, the food is excellent, and the pool is lovely. Booking in advance is strongly recommended as it fills up fast.
Top Things to Do
Snorkeling — Tubod Marine Sanctuary in San Juan is the top spot. The water is shallow and full of colorful fish and healthy coral. Entrance and snorkel rental cost 100 pesos each. Tulapos Marine Sanctuary is another highlight — blacktip reef sharks, giant clams, and sea turtles have all been spotted there.

Waterfalls — Cambugahay Falls is the most popular, with rope swings and natural pools. Arriving at opening time (8 AM) means fewer crowds. Lugnason Falls and Cangbangag Falls are quieter, more adventurous options.

Sunset — Cangbusyo Beach is the favorite local sunset spot. It has a relaxed vibe, warm shallow water, and small bars serving cold drinks and food.

Salagdoong Beach — Located about 50 minutes from San Juan, this beach has stunning blue water and cliff jumping spots. Worth the drive.

Is Siquijor Safe?
Yes. The island feels calm, clean, and well organized. Locals are friendly and most speak English. Natural disasters are rare. Solo travelers and expats alike feel comfortable and welcome there.
Siquijor is a special place — easy to visit, hard to leave.
