Marinduque continues to showcase the perfect blend of progress, natural beauty, and rich biodiversity. In Torrijos, the completion of a newly built road has given local farmers a significant boost, improving access to markets and easing the transport of their agricultural goods.
Beyond infrastructure, the province also captivates travelers with the pristine charm of Maniwaya Island, famous for its white-sand beaches and glamping cottages, and the Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary, a vast protected area that serves as home to diverse flora and fauna. Together, these highlights reflect how Marinduque thrives through development while preserving its natural treasures and supporting its communities.
Torrijos Farmers Gain Boost from Newly Built Road

For many years, residents of Barangay Tigwi in Torrijos, Marinduque, faced difficulties in transporting their agricultural goods and moving around the community due to the lack of a paved farm-to-market road. This situation often caused delays in delivering crops to buyers and limited access to processing plants and distribution centers. With the completion of the concreting project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Marinduque District Engineering Office (DEO), farmers now enjoy a more reliable road network that allows them to bring their products to market faster and more efficiently.

According to Marinduque District Engineer Richard Emmanuel P. Ragragio, who reported the project to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, the road construction covered 1,000.00 linear meters of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) with a width of 5.00 meters and a thickness of 0.20 meters. The project also included 1.50-meter gravel shoulders on both sides and 357.30 cubic meters of stone masonry to ensure long-term durability. Beyond improving infrastructure, the new road has reduced travel time from three hours to just 15 minutes, greatly benefiting both farmers and residents.
Maniwaya Island

Maniwaya Island is one of Marinduque’s most famous places to visit. It should be at the top of any traveler’s bucket list. This island lies in the town of Santa Cruz and has pristine white-sand beaches that are as nice as some of the most popular beaches in the Philippines. The pristine waters, relaxed vibe, and natural beauty of this island make it a popular place for both locals and tourists to get away from it all.

Maniwaya Island is even more charming because it has a variety of places to stay along its beach, from cheap resorts to sophisticated glamping huts that look like they belong in Bali, Indonesia. These one-of-a-kind places to stay are connected to nature and offer guests both comfort and a taste of tropical luxury. Maniwaya Island is a great place to relax and have fun. It has beautiful scenery and easy-to-reach amenities. It is one of the best places to visit in Marinduque’s rising tourism scene.
Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary
One of the most important natural areas in the province is the Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary. There are about 9,000 hectares of lush plants there. In 2004, Presidential Proclamation No. 696 made it a protected area. Boac, Gasan, Buenavista, Torrijos, and Sta. Cruz are all part of it. In the sanctuary, you can see many different kinds of birds, such as the Zebra Dove, Serpent Eagle, Brahminy Kite, and Philippine Scops Owl. There are also many native trees in the area, such as Ipil, Narra, Yakal, and Molave, which make the ecosystem rich and lively.

There are also caves that are home to rare species like the cave-dwelling freshwater shrimp and wild animals like the Philippine warty pig, the Philippine deer, the cloud rat, and the green racket tail. The Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place for eco-tourism activities like hiking, camping, and bird-watching because it has a lot of different kinds of plants and animals and a big forest watershed. People who love nature and want to see Marinduque’s rich ecosystems and learn more about how important it is to protect them will love this sanctuary.
With its rich biodiversity, that continues to draw visitors and inspire pride among locals. Together, these milestones reflect how Marinduque thrives through a balance of infrastructure, tourism, and environmental conservation, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for its people.
