Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro — Travel through Calintaan has been revolutionized with the recent upgrades to the Mindoro West Coastal Road. Previously, the road was notorious for its uneven surfaces and inadequate drainage, posing significant safety risks. Now, thanks to the comprehensive rehabilitation efforts, motorists and the local community enjoy a much safer and smoother journey.
The area’s former road conditions included damaged pavement that made driving hazardous, along with a low-capacity Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert (RCPC) prone to flooding during the rainy season. These issues have been addressed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office (DEO).
District Engineer Joselito A. Antonio, in his report to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, detailed the project’s scope. It entailed replacing a 0.054-kilometer stretch of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) and the 3-line RCPC with a new 2-barrel box culvert measuring 3.0 meters by 2.75 meters and extending 9.70 meters. The project also included the construction of slope protection and staggered headwalls.
These enhancements significantly boost the drainage system’s capacity and efficiency, reducing flood risks and protecting local homes and properties. The safer road conditions minimize accident risks and foster smoother transportation, which benefits the local economy and supports the community’s resilience and sustainable development.
The completion of this project marks a significant improvement in Calintaan’s infrastructure, providing residents with a safer environment and a more reliable route for all travelers.
