Calapan City, the bustling capital of Oriental Mindoro, continues to balance progress with culture and natural beauty.

Recently, the city welcomed a new school facility designed to accommodate its growing student population, reflecting its commitment to education and a brighter future for its youth. Beyond its development efforts, Calapan also captivates visitors with its scenic attractions such as Anahaw Island, a serene escape known for its pristine waters and relaxing ambiance. At the heart of the city lies the Calapan City Plaza, a landmark rich in history and heritage, featuring cultural symbols that celebrate both the Mangyan people and Mindoro’s endemic tamaraw. Together, these facets highlight Calapan City not only as a hub of progress but also as a destination where tradition, learning, and natural charm thrive in harmony.

New School Facility to Support Growing Student Population in Calapan City

The Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has built a three-story, six-classroom school building at Calapan Central School in Ibaba West, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. This project is needed because more and more students are signing up for school each year. The new building promises to give students modern and comfortable places to learn. It will help reduce overcrowding in classrooms and give students a better place to learn and succeed in the future.

District Engineer Salvador E. Abad told DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, that the building is 9.5 meters by 23.0 meters and was built to give the school more places to learn. The project also shows how DPWH and the Department of Education (DepEd) are still working together to improve the country’s educational infrastructure. Students at Calapan Central School should have better learning conditions now that there are more classrooms. These conditions will help them be more productive, grow, and do well in school.

Anahaw Island

This is Anahaw Island, and its charming beachside resort is only a few steps from the water and is the perfect place to relax and have fun on vacation.  Families, friends, and couples can look forward to a variety of beach activities that will make memories that will last a lifetime. Pet owners will also love the area because they can take their pets for leisurely walks along the coast.

Guests can relax in the resort’s cozy rooms, which have TVs for extra comfort after a day of fun.  The outdoor pool is a great place to relax, and the free breakfast is a great way to start the day.  The resort also makes sure that guests can stay connected by providing free internet access in common areas. This makes it easy to share perfect moments online.  An on-site restaurant and room service make things even better by making every stay easy and comfortable.

Calapan City Plaza

Calapan City Plaza is the city’s cultural and historical center. A cemented gazebo with a spiral staircase that goes up to the roof is at the center. There are statues of a Mangyan and a tamaraw on the roof. The Mangyans are the island’s native people, and the tamaraw is the island’s native dwarf buffalo. These figures represent Mindoro’s rich heritage. The plaza is even more charming because it has a relief sculpture of Mindoro and a monument honoring Dr. Jose Rizal, the country’s National Hero.

There are local vendors selling snacks and drinks around the plaza, making it a nice place to stop for both fun and sightseeing. It is even more important because it is strategically located across from Calapan’s old City Hall and next to the Holy Infant Academy, which is the oldest Catholic school in Mindoro. Calapan City Plaza is more than just a public space; it is a place where people can come together and learn about the city’s history, culture, and community. It is also a landmark for visitors.

Together, these developments and attractions showcase Calapan as a city that not only invests in its people’s future but also celebrates its heritage and environment, making it a truly dynamic destination in Oriental Mindoro.
