Bayawan City, which is in the southwestern section of Negros Oriental, is known as the “Agricultural Capital of Negros Oriental.” It is the largest city in the province by land size, covering 69,908 hectares and 28 lively barangays. It is also around 100 kilometers from Dumaguete City. Along the Sulu Sea, the coastline is 15 kilometers long and has both fishing spots and beautiful beaches.

The past of the city is very long. The name was changed from Tolong Nuevo to Bayawan in 1952. The new name comes from the Visayan word bayaw, which means “to hoist” or “to elevate.” Republic Act 8983 made it an official component city on December 23, 2000. The culture of Bayawan is just as rich. Every February, the colorful Tawo-Tawo Festival fills the streets with dancers dressed as farmers and scarecrows to honor the city’s strong agricultural history.
